Sarasota (East of I75) Bee Ridge Road Construction to Begin!

Sarasota (East of I75)

America celebrates the birth of our Nation on July 4th and the communities Out East of Sarasota celebrate the ground breaking of our long awaited Bee Ridge Road Improvement Project.  The Plan will improve traffic flow for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists while adding a landscaped median and thoroughfare.  See full details from the County below.

Sarasota County has contracted with Westra Construction Corporation of Palmetto to construct the Bee Ridge Road Improvements, from Mauna Loa Boulevard to Iona Road. It will include roadway, county and private utility improvements.

The construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 7 and is expected to be complete by the Summer of 2016. Residents will begin seeing work on the west end of the project and continuing to the east. The contractor will be erecting silt fence along the entire project. Then they will begin clearing the right-of-way and installing water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure. The private utility companies will be relocating phone and power lines. No disruption of service is expected.

The roadway segment west of Bent Tree Boulevard, a distance of 1.68 miles, will be reconstructed to a four-lane divided urban roadway with a landscaped median, 10-foot sidewalk on the south side, bicycle lanes, three roundabouts, landscaping and LED street lighting. The Mauna Loa intersection will remain signalized. The segment from east of Bent Tree Boulevard to Iona Road, a distance of 0.93 miles, will be milled and resurfaced with the addition of bike lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk on the south side, LED street lighting and reconstruction of the Iona Road/Bee Ridge Extension intersection as a one lane roundabout. The utility improvements consist of new construction of water mains, sewer force mains, a lift station and relocation of all private utilities.
